2021 Made the File. 2025 Wrote the Caption.

Listen up, class. Today’s lesson: do not put these two in the same tray and call it AI.

Gallery Punks is April 2021. Two hundred seventy-eight pieces. A model from a year when the tool still showed its work. The fingerprints are in the file. High resolution was a decision. The edition closed because someone finished it, not because a timeline asked for a drop. The rare thing is the run. You cannot boot that session again.

Masks of Luci is January 2025. Sam Spratt. Six hundred thirteen masks, ten percent to the maker. A masquerade, not a render pass. The mask starts bare. The picture is assigned after you play. Skip the party and the mask stays incomplete. The object is the receipt. The thing being sold is the guest list, the observation, the caption written on top of the file.

Those are not the same models, and they are not the same output. One year had to make the picture, because the picture was all there was. The other year can skip the picture and sell the behavior around it. Both can be art. Only one of them gets rarer when the tool dies.

So the comparison is not clumsy versus polished. It is a file that cannot be rerun versus a story that can be restaged. Collectors over the next five years will sort those piles. The 2021 pile does not need a new chapter. It needs someone who can still tell a workshop from a masquerade.

Class dismissed. One made the object. The other narrated the room.

(P.S. No financial advice. A caption can be reprinted. A 2021 run cannot.)
